Our Temporary Home

Well this is my first attempt at Blogging.  My Daughter in Law Luci is such an inspiration to me with her blog and it such a joy to keep up with the kids through the blog.  I have always enjoyed creative memories and taken pride for myself as the keeper of the family memories- why not do it on-line.

So with that I want to tell you about a very special man, my uncle- Bob Gates.  We called him Uncle Ami as his middle name was Almond.  He was my mom's big brother.  He passed away on Tuesday night and went home to be with his Lord.  I spent the day with my parents and daughter Brooke making funeral arrangements.  When you are sitting at the funeral home talking about what flowers, what music, what prayers , etc..you realize that this life we lead is really only temporary and this earth is our temporary home.  Uncle Ami was the most spiritual man I know.  He is at home now with the love of his life- not the temporary one but the eternal one. He has started the best part of his life. Rest in Peace Uncle Ami, we will miss you and such a blessing to have you in my life for 48 years.  Bella

Here is Ami's Obituary:

Gates, Robert Bob Gates passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 5. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1926 and served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and later received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Texas. He went to Dallas and worked as an engineer at Dallas Power & Light for many years. The love of his life was his Lord and his church where he served as a lay reader for years and as a member of the Society of Mary, the Brotherhood of St. Andrews, and Tuesday Night Bible study. Throughout the years Bob developed a love and close friendship with a very large and wonderful family, the Gerbers, and together they worshipped the Lord. Bob was very interested in aviation and had a pilot's license. He fiddled with cameras and had a house full of them. Also, he loved to go to garage sales and look for bargains. Bob is survived by his sister, Louanne Whatley and her husband Carl, many nieces and nephews, plus a whole host of warm-hearted friends at Holy Nativity Church. The funeral will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Holy Nativity, 2200 18th St., Plano, TX. Viewing will be at Ted Dickey Funeral Home next to Holy Nativity from 6-8 pm., Friday. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Holy Nativity.
